Support the Work of the
Positive Discipline Association
Dear Friend of Positive Discipline,
These days, it seems as if our world is simply reeling from daily violence. It’s on our streets, it’s in our schools and communities, and it’s in our work places. Sadly, it’s even in our homes. We are all confronted by the reality of perpetual warfare and ongoing economic and environmental devastation -- from our smallest children to our elders, in our homes and in our classrooms.
Contrast this with: A troubled 14-year-old foster child who, when encouraged again and again by a caring school staff, begins to make positive, cooperative life choices instead of resorting to bullying and aggression. Years later, speaking at graduation, that same once-troubled teen thanked the people who believed in him, and who had studied and used Positive Discipline at his school.
Or this story: After participating in class meetings at school, a ten-year-old child offers to lead family meetings to help his mother find more peaceful and effective ways for dealing with family problems.
And this example: A mother returns to a Positive Discipline class after trying out the strategy,” Ask for what you do want, instead of what you don’t want.” Her eyes fill with tears of joy as she realizes the difference it makes when actions and requests invite cooperation, respect and greater understanding.
These are actual incidents that demonstrate how Positive Discipline has changed people’s lives. They are examples of the many stories that Positive Discipline Associates hear about real life, day-to-day incidents where lives are changed as a result of our classes, workshops, and coaching of parents, students, teachers, and agency staff.
What can you do?
Wouldn’t you like to know that you’ve made a difference? That you are contributing to making this kind of transformation possible? We’re writing today to offer you the opportunity to do just that, through investing in the work of the Positive Discipline Association (PDA).
Why Positive Discipline?
Positive Discipline is a program that teaches important social and life skills. Based on the work of renowned psychologists, Alfred Adler and Rudolf Dreikurs, it is an approach to communication, connection, and conflict resolution that emphasizes the importance of relationships based on mutual respect and dignity. Positive Discipline does this by teaching and modeling practical day-to-day skills for creating connection and finding solutions - for families, schools and communities.
The Positive Discipline Association, a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization. Established in 2004, the PDA has developed a rigorous training program for parent educators and teacher trainers. We need your help to bring this work into more and more homes and into more and more classrooms. We want the capacity to respond to the ever increasing demand for training, both nationally and internationally. We want to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse population. We want to strengthen, support, and expand our research efforts. And we are asking you today to join us in making the next steps possible.
How will your contribution make a difference?
Your support we will enable us to:
- Ensure the highest caliber of training and support for new Positive Discipline Trainers, both nationally and internationally.
- Expand research opportunities for parenting programs and for classroom management and discipline models in schools.
- Develop the Demonstration School program of the PDA.
- Publish translations of printed materials, allowing us to support the work of our international Associates.
We know we are making the difference in the lives of countless children and families. Our educators are working in every kind of school and with all age groups. They are impacting the lives of families with children of every race and many nationalities. They are assisting parents facing the challenges of incarceration and re-entry and supporting the determined efforts of those in recovery.
Please don’t delay – send your tax-deductible donation today. Your investment in the future of our families, our schools, and our nation will forge the next generation of thinkers and problem solvers! You will make the difference!
Sincerely,
