Along with his duties as principal, Bill presents staff development workshops on Positive Discipline in the Classroom to teachers in his school district. He also works with teachers individually on classroom management strategies. In his spare time he teaches parent education classes to parents of elementary, junior high and high school age children.
He has worked as a special education teacher, a high school counselor and as a dean of students at the junior high level. Prior to coming to Oak Hills High School, he was the Dropout Prevention Coordinator where in a five year period the drop out rate went from 19 % to 5.6 %.
Bill has been a consultant for other school districts and has presented Positive Discipline in the Classroom workshops and Teaching Parenting workshops throughout California.
Bill, who is married and has two teenage daughters, has worked as a public school educator for more than 20 years.
Bill Spencer is the Director of Student and Community Outreach for Atascadero High School in Atascadero, California, where behavior problems and referrals are kept to a minimum because the teachers practice the Positive Discipline principles daily. As a result, students learn self-discipline, responsibility, cooperation and problem-solving skills.
